Labour Party Faction Submits New Leadership List to INEC

The Labour Party faction led by Senator Nenadi Usman has submitted a 34-member Interim National Working Committee list to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), intensifying a leadership struggle within the party.

The list, submitted on November 28 and seen by CDA News, is presented as the “legitimate leadership” of the party. It cites a July 18 National Executive Council (NEC) resolution and the party’s constitution as the basis for its authority.

This move directly challenges the camp of Julius Abure, who held a rival NEC meeting just a day earlier that reaffirmed him as the National Chairman.

The Usman-led faction enjoys the support of prominent figures including Governor Alex Otti of Abia State and the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

In the cover letter to INEC, Senator Usman stated that the new list “superseded” all previous submissions and urged the electoral body to grant it official recognition.
