FCT Motorists Demand More Dangote-Fuel Stations as MRS Sells Petrol at N739/Litre

Motorists in the Federal Capital Territory are calling on Dangote Refinery to significantly expand the number of its partner retail outlets to improve access to its more affordable petrol.

The plea follows Dangote’s recent designation of MRS Oil as its official retail partner, selling petrol at N739 per litre nationwide. This price is notably lower than that of other major marketers, including NNPC Retail (N835), TotalEnergies (N920), and Conoil (N910).

Despite the price advantage, checks across Abuja reveal a scarcity of MRS stations selling the Dangote product. On the Nyanya-Karshi Road, only one out of three MRS outlets was dispensing at the N739 price as of Tuesday, with others still charging N910. Long queues have persisted at available stations, with some reported to stop sales as early as 7:00 p.m. daily.

Motorists Voice Frustration and Hope

At an MRS station along Airport Road, civil servant George Anosike highlighted the accessibility issue: “MRS stations are very few in Abuja. If more stations sell at this price, more people will enjoy the Dangote bonanza.”

Another motorist, Joachim Jimbiri, expressed optimism mixed with expectation: “This is when we are beginning to see the real benefits of the Dangote Refinery… Petrol should not cost more than N500 per litre in this country. We have abundant crude oil and a functional refinery, which should make petrol affordable.”

Consumers are now urging Dangote Refinery to respond by authorizing more retail stations across the FCT and beyond, aiming to ease access and maximize the impact of its competitive pricing on the market.
