Borno Police Recover Unexploded Hand Grenade from Drainage Slab in Maiduguri

MAIDUGURI — The Borno State Police Command has recovered an unexploded hand grenade from a drainage slab in the Moduganari area of Maiduguri, the state capital, following a report from vigilant residents.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the recovery was made on Saturday, August 15, 2026, by operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Base 13, Maiduguri .

The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the police received a report at about 12:40 pm regarding a suspected unexploded ordnance (UXO) found on a drainage slab in the Moduganari area .

Acting on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, the EOD-CBRN team promptly mobilised to the scene and safely recovered the item .

CDA News Nigeria reports that the recovered UXO has been secured for further examination, while investigations are ongoing to ascertain its origin and the circumstances surrounding its discovery .

The Commissioner of Police commended the vigilance of the members of the public who promptly alerted the Police and reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the State .

The police urged residents to avoid touching, moving or tampering with any suspected explosive device and to report such findings immediately to the authorities .

“The Borno State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and urges continued cooperation and timely reporting of suspicious objects or activities,” the statement said .
