Six Rivers State Reps Defect from PDP to APC, Citing Party Crisis

The All Progressives Congress has bolstered its numbers in the House of Representatives following the defection of six members from Rivers State, formerly of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The lawmakers’ letters of defection were read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during plenary on Tuesday. They cited the protracted and unresolved leadership crisis within the PDP as their primary reason for leaving, stating it had made effective functioning within the party impossible.

In their letters, the representatives indicated that the decision was made after extensive consultations and that the ruling APC, under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, offers a more viable platform to serve their constituents effectively.

The Defecting Lawmakers

The six federal lawmakers who crossed over are:

· Dumnamere Dekor (Khana/Gokana)
· Solomon Bob (Abua/Odual and Ahoada East)
· Hart Cyril (Degema/Bonny)
· Victor Obuzor (Ahoada West/Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni)
· Blessing Amadi (Port Harcourt II)
· Felix Nweke (Eleme/Oyigbo/Tai)

This move follows a significant political realignment in Rivers State, coming weeks after Governor Siminalayi Fubara defected to the APC on December 5, 2025, and shortly after 15 members of the State House of Assembly, including the Speaker, made a similar move.

The defections signal a major consolidation of APC influence in the oil-rich state and a significant weakening of the PDP’s structure there.
