A high-profile thanksgiving service was held on Sunday, December 28, at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Obuohia Obi-Ibere, Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, in honor of Hon. Sir Sam Onuigbo and his family.

The event, which attracted dignitaries from across the political and religious spectrum, was organized by Onuigbo—the Southeast representative on the North East Development Commission (NEDC) board and former federal lawmaker—alongside his wife, Dame Pastor Chinyere Onuigbo, to express gratitude for God’s blessings.
The ceremony drew the presence of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu; Senator Austin Akobundu; member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia, Chief Obi Aguocha; former NDDC Chairman Chief Onyema Ugochukwu; Prof. Azubuike Onyebuchi of FMC Umuahia; Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University, Prof. Maduebibisi Iwe; and royal fathers, among others.
The Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Dr. Oliver Ali Abaa, led a delegation of bishops, knights, and laity. In his sermon, he urged Christians to consistently show gratitude to God, noting that thanksgiving invites more blessings.
In his testimony, Hon. Onuigbo recounted God’s faithfulness throughout his career—from his service at the American Embassy to roles as a commissioner, two-term House of Representatives member, and current NEDC board member. He announced his family’s commitment to rebuilding St. Paul’s Methodist Church as an act of thanksgiving.
His wife, Dame Pastor Chinyere Onuigbo, also thanked God for His mercies and affirmed the family’s dedication to worship.
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu praised Onuigbo as a reliable and God-fearing public servant and encouraged others in office to emulate his faith and humility.

The thanksgiving was followed by a reception at the Onuigbo family’s country home, which featured a cake-cutting ceremony.
