Fresh allegations have emerged against Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, following a recent media chat that has sparked renewed debate over governance, transparency, and project execution in Abia State.
A critic, reacting to the governor’s latest media engagement, accused the administration of failing to account for significant public funds reportedly received since 2023.
The critic alleged that despite increased revenues compared to the tenure of former governor Okezie Ikpeazu, visible infrastructure and public service improvements remain limited.
The claims also questioned reported expenditures on schools, hospitals, and health centers, alleging that many of the projects cited by the government are either incomplete or not visible to the public. Concerns were further raised about local government financial autonomy and the use of media narratives to shape public perception.
The critic commended one unnamed journalist for raising what was described as “difficult questions,” while accusing sections of the media of avoiding scrutiny of the administration.
Governor Otti’s administration has consistently maintained that it is implementing reforms aimed at improving financial accountability, infrastructure, and public services. The government has also highlighted ongoing projects in road rehabilitation, civil service reforms, and fiscal transparency.
Civil society organizations, including global accountability advocates such as Transparency International and financial institutions like the World Bank Group, have continued to emphasize transparency and accountability as critical pillars of governance.
As public debate continues, political observers say sustained scrutiny and open dialogue remain essential to strengthening democratic accountability in Abia State.
