KADUNA, NIGERIA – Former Governors Rotimi Amaechi and Nasir El-Rufai, alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, were among prominent political figures who visited the El-Rufai family to offer condolences over the passing of the former Kaduna Governor’s mother, Hajiya Halima El-Rufai.
Photos circulating on social media captured the moments of solidarity, as politicians from across party lines set aside political differences to commiserate with the grieving family.
The visit, which took place at El-Rufai’s residence in Kaduna, saw a convergence of opposition and ruling party figures—a rare display of unity amid the country’s charged political atmosphere.
Atiku, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), were seen in photos engaging with the family.
Other political associates and traditional rulers also paid their respects.
El-Rufai’s mother passed away last week after a brief illness. Burial rites have since been concluded in accordance with Islamic traditions.
The former governor expressed gratitude to the visitors, describing the outpouring of support as a testament to the bonds that transcend political affiliations.
