AWKA, ANAMBRA STATE – A pastor has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for allegedly sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl in a church setting, sparking outrage among residents.
The suspect, whose identity has been withheld pending investigation, was taken into custody following a report by the victim’s family. According to police sources, the pastor allegedly abused the teenager on multiple occasions under the guise of spiritual counseling.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest, stating that the command is treating the case with utmost seriousness.
“The suspect is in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations. We will ensure justice is served,” Ikenga said.
The victim has been taken to a hospital for medical examination and is receiving counseling.
The incident has drawn condemnation from child rights advocates and religious leaders, who called for stricter oversight of church activities and the protection of minors.
The Anambra State Government has pledged to support the victim’s family and ensure that the law takes its full course.
