A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Anyaragbu Chinweuba, has described Hon. Chukwudi Apugo’s viral video following the party’s House of Representatives primary as “a joke of the century,” alleging that the former lawmaker’s comments portray him as “a mockery and a mole” within the party.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Chinweuba was reacting to remarks allegedly made by Apugo in a viral video, in which he reportedly threatened to work against the APC’s National Assembly candidates after failing to secure the party’s ticket for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.
According to Chinweuba, it is inappropriate for an experienced politician to publicly declare an intention to oppose candidates produced by his own party simply because he was unsuccessful at the primaries.
The APC chieftain further alleged that Apugo’s comments reflected bitterness and questioned his commitment to the party, claiming that such statements could be interpreted as the actions of “a mole” working against the APC’s interests. He urged party members to remain united and focused on supporting all APC candidates ahead of future elections.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Chinweuba maintained that political contests naturally produce winners and losers and advised aggrieved aspirants to channel their grievances through the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms rather than making public statements capable of undermining party unity.
As of the time of filing this report, Hon. Chukwudi Apugo had not publicly responded to the allegations made by Chinweuba.
