Tension has heightened in Osun State following an attack on an Independent National Electoral Commission distribution centre by suspected hoodlums who made away with Permanent Voter Cards meant for residents ahead of the August 15 governorship election, CDA News Nigeria reports.
The incident occurred on Sunday at Oyinlola DC Primary School, Ward 2, in the Odo-Otin Local Government Area, where INEC officials were peacefully attending to residents collecting their PVCs.
According to the Osun State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, about ten armed hoodlums invaded the centre, fired sporadically into the air and carted away three packs of PVCs before fleeing the scene.

A resident who witnessed the attack, identified as Gbadebo, said the assailants moved swiftly and without warning, catching both officials and residents off guard before disappearing with the electoral materials.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, has condemned the attack in strong terms and ordered a full-scale investigation, with tactical and intelligence units already deployed to track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen cards.
The attack has since sparked political controversy, with the Osun State House of Assembly Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, and members of the APC Progressive Youth exchanging accusations over who sponsored the disruption, each describing the other’s camp as responsible for the breach.
Authorities have appealed to residents to remain calm and vigilant, assuring that security agencies are working to prevent further disruptions as the state braces for what is expected to be a keenly contested governorship election.
