The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Bauchi State, Barr. Ibrahim Kashim, has resigned his membership of the party, with effect from October 16, 2026.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Kashim announced his exit in a statement titled “A Message to My Supporters and the Good People of Bauchi State,” circulated on social media. In a resignation letter, he described the decision as a matter of personal choice and thanked party leaders and members for the opportunity to serve.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that he did not disclose his next political move or say whether he would pursue the governorship on another platform. He urged supporters to stay calm and united, promising to announce the next phase of his journey in due course. “Our mission is bigger than any political party,” he said.
Some reports suggest he may align with the All Progressives Congress (APC). CDA News Nigeria could not independently verify this, and Kashim has not confirmed it.
Kashim, a former Secretary to the State Government under Governor Bala Mohammed, was the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate before stepping down for the governor. He later left the PDP in July 2025, moved to the SDP and emerged as the NDC candidate, with Tata Alhaji as running mate.
The exit raises questions about the NDC’s preparations for 2027. The Independent National Electoral Commission has listed Kashim as the party’s candidate. The NDC had not publicly responded at press time.
