Bayelsa 2027: MacIver Declares Governorship Ambition, Pledges ₦70m Monthly to PDP

YENAGOA — Great Joshua MacIver has formally declared his intention to contest the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the November 2027 off-cycle election in Bayelsa State, pledging a monthly donation of N70 million to strengthen the party .

CDA News Nigeria gathered that MacIver communicated his ambition in a letter addressed to the Bayelsa State PDP Chairman and the State Working Committee . In the letter, he emphasized that competence, experience, commitment, transparency, and the welfare of the people should be the guiding criteria for selecting the party’s candidate, rather than political zoning .

“I firmly believe that the people of Bayelsa State deserve a leader who prioritises effectiveness, the welfare of our people, and the development of our State,” MacIver stated .

CDA News Nigeria reports that as part of his contribution to rebuilding and repositioning the PDP in the state, MacIver committed to donating ₦70 million monthly to the party, beginning from August 2026 . The pledge, if sustained, would amount to ₦840 million annually .

MacIver, who previously served as chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area under the PDP, was the APC deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 election. He recently defected back to the PDP, citing the sidelining of party chieftains following Governor Douye Diri’s defection to the APC .
