The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a butcher for allegedly causing the death of his colleague following a violent dispute at an abattoir in the state.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the tragic incident occurred on Friday morning in the Sagamu area of Ogun State. The suspect and the deceased, who were co-workers, were said to have engaged in a heated argument over a minor work-related issue.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, the altercation escalated rapidly, leading the suspect to attack the victim with a dangerous object. The victim sustained severe injuries during the assault.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. However, the doctors on duty confirmed him dead upon arrival.
CDA News Nigeria reports that police operatives arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and apprehended the suspect to prevent a breakdown of law and order, as angry colleagues threatened to take matters into their own hands.
SP Odutola confirmed that the deceased’s body has been deposited at the morgue for an autopsy. She added that the suspect is currently in custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation before being charged in court.
The police urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
