OSOGBO: The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 10,210 personnel and specialised tactical units to Osun State ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday.
The deployment was ordered by the NSCDC Commandant-General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, as part of measures to strengthen security and ensure a peaceful electoral process across the state.
The corps said its personnel would be deployed to polling units, collation centres and other strategic locations to support the security architecture for the election.
The deployment is also expected to help protect voters, electoral officials, election materials and critical infrastructure before, during and after voting.
NSCDC spokesman Babawale Afolabi said the deployment was aimed at reinforcing security operations and preventing activities capable of disrupting the election.
The specialised tactical units are expected to complement conventional personnel in responding to emerging security threats and maintaining law and order.
The move comes as security agencies intensify preparations for the Osun governorship poll, with authorities emphasising the need for a peaceful, free and credible election.
The NSCDC urged its personnel to remain professional, impartial and disciplined while carrying out their duties.
