Former federal lawmaker and Member representing the Southeast at the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Chief Samuel Onuigbo, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assenting to the establishment of regional development commissions, describing the move as a landmark achievement that will have a significant impact on the infrastructural growth trajectory of all parts of the country .
Speaking on a national television programme, Onuigbo applauded President Tinubu, calling him a “man of history” whose vision for even development across Nigeria is already yielding tangible results . He noted that the creation of these commissions demonstrates the President’s commitment to addressing long-standing infrastructural deficits and ecological challenges in every region .
Drawing from his experience serving on the board of the NEDC, Onuigbo highlighted how the commission has effectively tackled the devastation caused by Boko Haram insurgency, addressed ecological problems in the North East, and managed forced migration resulting from the conflict . He expressed confidence that the newly established Southeast Development Commission would replicate this success in addressing the unique challenges of the region .
Beyond the development commissions, Onuigbo praised President Tinubu for repositioning the economy at a critical time in Nigeria’s history . He specifically noted the administration’s strategic placement of an Igbo son in a sensitive position as a service chief in the military, describing it as a demonstration of the President’s commitment to national inclusivity .
Onuigbo also highlighted key federal projects in Abia State, including the Abia Airport facilitated by the Tinubu administration, as evidence of the President’s even-handed approach to development . He urged Abians to take advantage of these dividends of democracy by aligning with the centre .
“At this critical time, Abia APC must present a candidate that will return Abia to the central government,” Onuigbo stated, emphasizing the importance of the state being part of the mainstream to attract more federal presence and accelerate development .
