The Nigerian Supreme Council for Ecclesiastical Affairs (NSCEA) has strongly condemned the title of a new Nollywood film, “A Very Dirty Christmas,” and demanded a public apology from its producer, popular actress Ini Edo.
In a statement signed by Bishop Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, Secretary of the Elders’ Council, the council described the title as “a blatant disregard for the spiritual essence of Christmas and an affront to Christian values.”
The group also questioned how the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) approved the title, especially during the Christmas season, and called on the board to provide an explanation.
A Call for Respect and Review
The NSCEA warned that such “disrespect” could lead to social unrest and the erosion of cultural values. They urged all stakeholders, including the government, to take immediate action to protect Nigeria’s cultural and religious heritage.
“We condemn this title in the strongest terms,” the statement read. “We urge Nigerians to join us in rejecting this title and promoting a more respectful and considerate cultural environment.”
As of press time, neither Ini Edo nor the NFVCB has issued a public response to the demand.
