In response to escalating security challenges in Plateau State, the Chief of Army Staff has deployed an additional 850 troops to bolster military presence and restore safety across affected communities.
The deployment, announced on Thursday, comes amid a series of violent incidents in the state, including communal clashes and targeted attacks that have heightened insecurity. Army officials said the reinforcements are tasked with enhancing patrols, protecting civilians, and supporting ongoing operations to neutralize armed groups operating in the region.
The COAS emphasized the military’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while working closely with state and local security agencies to ensure coordinated responses. Troops have also been instructed to engage with community leaders to improve intelligence gathering and strengthen public trust.
Residents have welcomed the increased military presence, expressing hope that the move will curb violence and provide a safer environment for families and businesses. Security analysts note that deploying additional forces is a necessary step, but they stress the need for complementary strategies, including dialogue, community policing, and socio-economic interventions to address underlying causes of unrest.
The Plateau State government has pledged full support to the troops and urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. Authorities continue to monitor the security situation closely, aiming to prevent further escalation and restore lasting peace to the region.
