Damaturu, Yobe State — The Yobe State Police Command has arrested three suspected cable vandals and recovered suspected stolen power cables, transformer components, and vehicles allegedly used in carrying out the criminal operation.
CDA News Nigeria gathered from reports that the arrests were made as part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to protect critical national infrastructure and curb the vandalism of public utilities across the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, operatives of the Area Command, Gashua, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Abubakar Idris, a 27-year-old aluminium pot maker from the Sabon Gari area of Bade Local Government Area, on July 23, 2026, at about 1:00 p.m. He was allegedly found in possession of suspected stolen power cables.
Police said further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects and the recovery of transformer components and vehicles believed to have been used in the vandalism activities.
“The arrests are part of the Command’s sustained efforts to protect critical national infrastructure and combat the vandalism of public utilities across Yobe State,” the Police Command stated.
