Court Proceedings Begin for Driver in Anthony Joshua’s Fatal Expressway Crash

SAGAMU – The Ogun State Police Command has arraigned the driver involved in the December 29 road accident that claimed the lives of two members of boxing champion Anthony Joshua’s entourage.

The driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was charged before the Sagamu Magistrate Court on Thursday, January 2. According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the case has been adjourned to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings.

The fatal crash occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Sagamu, involving the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and his team and a stationary truck. While the former world heavyweight champion sustained minor injuries and was treated and discharged, two of his aides died in the collision.

The police had earlier detained Kayode as part of their investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident, which drew significant public and media attention due to Joshua’s global stature.

The arraignment marks the first legal step in a case that has highlighted ongoing concerns about road safety on one of Nigeria’s busiest highways.
