The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has taken decisive action by sealing the office of Ikeja Electric Plc in Lagos on Thursday.
The enforcement follows what the FCCPC described as the electricity distribution company’s “continued and deliberate violation of consumer rights.” Officials stated that Ikeja Electric refused for over two years to comply with a directive from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to unbundle a customer’s account and restore power.
Engr. Idayat Olorungbe, representing the FCCPC, explained that the company ignored repeated reminders, a formal directive in April 2025, and a final compliance notice issued in October. This left a complainant and 19 residential units without electricity for more than 2.5 years, despite fulfilling all financial obligations.
“The seal will remain until Ikeja Electric fully complies,” Olorungbe stated, adding that the action is backed by the FCCPA 2018.
