IKWUANO, ABIA STATE – The Umuariaga Community Development Union (UCDU) Electoral Committee has revised its screening outcome, lowering the eligibility benchmark from 50 to 45 following concerns and appeals from community members.
In a statement signed by Committee Secretary, Kelvin Oji, the adjustment was made to give Ndi Umuariaga a broader range of candidates to choose from. The election date remains unchanged.
Under the new criteria, candidates who scored 45 and above are now eligible, increasing the number of qualified aspirants from 11 to 15.
The contest for President General will now be keenly contested by four candidates: Chimobi Ikeokwo (68), Kalu Kalu Macsweeny (54), Okechukwu Erico Oji (48), and Okechukwu Nnochiri (45).
Other positions to be decided through election include Treasurer, with Lady Precious V. Ukaenye (68) facing Ogbonnaya Juliet (49), and Men’s Wing Financial Secretary, where Obioma Eluwa (54) will contest against Ezenwa Joseph (48).
Seven positions have only one eligible candidate each, including Vice President General, Secretary General, Financial Secretary, Provost, and key offices in the Men’s Wing.
The Electoral Committee assured the community of its commitment to a transparent, fair, and credible process.
