For more than eleven years, ‘Ugwumba’ Chika Ishionwu has championed a philosophy built around a simple but compelling idea: “For Us, By Us.” Supporters say this vision has guided his continuous investment of time, resources, and energy into improving the lives of the people of Ikwuano, well before he sought elective office.
According to members of the For Us, By Us Movement, this commitment is reflected in a number of community-based initiatives. These include the provision of free bus transportation to Ahia Ndoro Market to ease transportation costs for farmers and traders, the Omenanwata Farmers Revolution, which introduced improved seedlings and modern farming practices in 26 of Ikwuano’s 57 villages, and the distribution of over 4,600 yam seedlings to promote food security and improve household incomes.
Supporters say these projects were not isolated acts of charity but pilot programmes designed to identify practical solutions that could later be expanded through legislation and effective government partnerships.
“Leadership should not be measured by campaign promises alone but by evidence of service already rendered. Real representation begins with understanding the needs of the people and translating those needs into sustainable public policies,” supporters of Ishionwu stated.
As the APC House of Assembly candidate for Ikwuano State Constituency, Ishionwu has outlined plans to sponsor an Abia State Agricultural Security Trust Fund Bill if elected. According to his campaign, the proposed legislation would establish a dedicated funding framework to support farmers through improved inputs, mechanisation, agricultural infrastructure, extension services, processing facilities and value-chain development.
His supporters further state that before introducing any major legislation affecting Ikwuano, he intends to consult widely with the Ikwuano Elders Advisory Council, traditional rulers, community leaders and representatives of the four clans to ensure that proposed laws genuinely reflect the aspirations of the people.
They describe this approach as participatory governance, insisting that effective leadership is built on consultation, accountability and a proven record of community service rather than political rhetoric.
