ABUJA/KANO – In a significant move underscoring major political shifts in the North, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has returned to Nigeria to oversee the formal defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to the ruling party.
Ganduje arrived in Abuja early Monday morning from London and is scheduled to proceed to Kano for a series of engagements. According to a statement by his Chief of Staff, Comrade Muhammad Garba, the former governor is set to participate in the APC’s electronic membership registration drive and play a prominent role in the reception for Governor Yusuf.
This development is part of ongoing efforts to consolidate recent political realignments within Kano State, following Governor Yusuf’s resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) last week. The defection is expected to dramatically alter the political landscape of the state, historically a key battleground.
The planned reception signals the APC’s intent to fully integrate the governor and strengthen its structures ahead of future elections, marking one of the most consequential political cross-carpetings in the current cycle.
