ABAKALIKI – In a notable political shift in Ebonyi State, the Zonal Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Ebonyi South Senatorial District, Chief Anayo Edwin, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), taking a significant number of supporters with him.
The defection, which took place at a formal ceremony in Afikpo on Monday, January 26, 2026, was confirmed by a statement from the Ebonyi State chapter of the ADC. The party welcomed the new members, stating the move signified a growing search for a viable political platform in the state.
In his remarks, Chief Edwin cited a “need for a credible alternative” and expressed a loss of confidence in the direction and internal democracy of the PDP at both the state and national levels. He was received by the state ADC Chairman, who described the defection as a “major boost” for the party’s structures ahead of future elections.
Political analysts view this defection as a further weakening of the PDP’s grassroots structure in Ebonyi South, a zone critical for electoral victory. It follows a pattern of political realignments across the country as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The PDP in Ebonyi State is yet to issue an official statement regarding the departure of its zonal vice chairman and his supporters.
