A fresh political disagreement has emerged over the rehabilitation of the Umuahia–Ikwuano–Ikot Ekpene Expressway, following claims by the media team of Rep. Obi Aguocha that the project resulted from a motion he reportedly sponsored in the House of Representatives in 2023.
In a statement titled “Propaganda Cannot Replace Performance,” critics argued that while legislative motions may draw attention to public issues, they do not automatically lead to project funding, contract awards, or execution.
The statement further maintained that the road rehabilitation was officially flagged off and is being executed under the Abia State Government, questioning claims that the federal lawmaker facilitated the project.
It also challenged Aguocha’s supporters to provide official documents, budgetary records, or statements from the Federal Ministry of Works linking him directly to the project’s approval or execution.
As of the time of filing this report, Rep. Obi Aguocha had not publicly responded to the latest allegations. The debate continues to generate reactions among political stakeholders in Abia State over the issue of project ownership and accountability.
