Ikwuano Secures Landmark Victory in Boundary Dispute with Umuahia North

UMUAHIA – Ikwuano Local Government Area has emerged victorious in a long-standing boundary dispute with Umuahia North Local Government Area over the ownership of land housing Government College Umudike and adjoining areas.

The Abia State Boundary Committee, headed by the Deputy Governor, delivered the final judgment after reviewing documents and presentations from both parties. According to the ruling, Ikwuano LGA—specifically the Amaoba Ime community in Oboro—is the rightful owner of the contested land, which extends to parts of the Timber Market area.

The committee’s decision was largely influenced by the “overwhelming” documentary evidence, including maps and annexures, presented by the Ikwuano delegation during an earlier hearing on February 24, 2025. In contrast, Umuahia North’s claim was based primarily on oral submissions.

In his address, the State Attorney General summarized the findings, confirming that records from Ikwuano substantiated their ownership claim. The Deputy Governor subsequently directed the Attorney General to draft a communiqué for the Governor’s endorsement and official gazetting.

Present at the final sitting were representatives from Ikwuano, including HRH Eze Otuwa of Amaoba Ime, Prince Sir Kingsley Uwa Nkume, and officials from Umuahia North LGA. Notably, representatives from the Lodu Ndume community in Umuahia North were absent.

The Deputy Governor also instructed the Mayor of Umuahia North to ensure that Ndume residents cease further encroachment and maintain peace on the land.

The Ikwuano Local Government Media Unit hailed the victory as a testament to the “administrative dexterity” of the Executive Mayor, Dr. Anthony Nwaubani, and the diligent efforts of key stakeholders from the area.

  1. This is a new year good news for my people of Ikwuano of particular Amaoba Oboro my neighbors and my maternal home and in large victory for all lovers of peace and truth. Abia state government should equally resolve the encroachment of Okwu Olokoro in Umuahia South LGA on our community land at Isi Ugwu as they are claiming our boundary with them is Iyi Umuohu. They have attacked my people of Umuohu Nnono Oboro Ikwuano on many occasions but we choose peace which does not translate to weakness as we have what it takes to take the battle into there community Okwu Olokoro but refused to do so because we see them as our kith and kin
