OSOGBO — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive electoral materials across the 30 local government areas of Osun State ahead of Saturday’s August 15 governorship election .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the distribution is taking place at the Central Bank of Nigeria office in Osogbo, the state capital . INEC National Commissioner supervising the election, Kunle Ajayi, attributed the delay in the exercise to the late arrival of newly printed ballot papers and other sensitive materials from Abuja .
CDA News Nigeria reports that the materials had to be reprinted after the commission added the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Dr. Francis Ajala, and his running mate, Faseke Oladipo, to the ballot following a Federal High Court judgment delivered on July 22, 2026 . This brings the total number of political parties contesting the election to 15 .
The electoral umpire had earlier stated that “the ballot papers for the election, scheduled to hold on Saturday, 15th August 2026, are being reproduced to reflect this addition” . The result sheets are also being reproduced to reflect the inclusion of the SDP candidate .
According to Ajayi, the commission began the distribution to ensure that all materials reached their designated locations ahead of the poll . The reprinting process affected the delivery timeline of the sensitive materials from the printing facility to the state . The Osun governorship election will take place across the state’s 30 local government areas on Saturday .
