The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election held on Saturday.
Oyebanji secured victory in a keenly contested poll, consolidating the APC’s hold on the South-West state. The declaration was made by the state Returning Officer at the INEC collation centre in Ado-Ekiti following the completion of results from all 16 local government areas.
The election saw a high turnout, with 1,028,929 voters having collected their Permanent Voters’ Cards ahead of the poll out of 1,059,360 registered voters in the state.
Oyebanji’s victory marks a significant political moment in Ekiti, as he seeks to continue the developmental trajectory of the APC administration in the state. His campaign focused on continuity, infrastructure development, and agricultural transformation.
Opposition parties have yet to officially react to the declaration, though some have called for a review of results from certain polling units.
INEC commended the peaceful conduct of the election and the orderly behaviour of voters across the state. The commission assured that official results are available on its website and social media platforms for public verification.
The Ekiti governorship election is seen as a precursor to the forthcoming Osun governorship poll in August 2026 and the 2027 general elections.
