The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, was formally recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at its quarterly consultative meeting with political parties on Wednesday.
The group’s National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, occupied the seats reserved for the PDP’s national leadership at the meeting in Abuja.
This development follows a recent Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan that nullified the PDP National Convention held in November 2025. Justice Uche Agomoh barred the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee from parading themselves as the party’s officers, stating the convention was held in “blatant disregard of court orders.”
The judge ruled that the PDP must operate under a caretaker committee until a lawful convention is conducted.
With the court’s decision and INEC’s subsequent action, the Wike-led faction now appears to hold administrative control of the party’s national operations, deepening the ongoing leadership crisis within the opposition party.
The Turaki-led faction had sought court validation for the November convention, but the ruling has significantly altered the party’s power dynamics.
