LAGOS — The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old housewife and a 30-year-old accomplice for allegedly staging her kidnapping and extorting ₦2.5 million from her husband, who resides in South Africa.
According to police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi, the husband reported the abduction on November 24, stating that armed kidnappers initially demanded ₦10 million, later reduced to ₦3 million, before he paid ₦2.5 million without his wife’s release.
How the Plot Unraveled:
Police investigations revealed inconsistencies in the woman’s story. Her accomplice was arrested in Ede, Osun State, and confessed to providing the SIM card used to create the WhatsApp account for ransom negotiations.
The woman eventually admitted to faking her abduction to extort money from her husband. Her iPhone 12 Pro Max, which she claimed was stolen, was recovered from a buyer who purchased it for ₦380,000.
Both suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
Lagos Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh condemned the act, warning that false reports waste critical security resources and reaffirming the command’s commitment to public safety.
