The Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Abia State, CN Leonard Chinagorom Nnadim, PhD, has called for stronger collaboration between security agencies in the fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Nnadim made the call on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, during a courtesy visit to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 9 Headquarters, Umuahia, AIG Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, PhD.
He stressed that cooperation between law enforcement agencies is essential in tackling illicit drugs, particularly through intelligence sharing, joint operations, public sensitisation and community engagement.
The commander also emphasised drug integrity testing, especially among personnel in the uniformed services. He said a drug-free workforce is critical to discipline, professionalism, public confidence and operational effectiveness. He added that persons who test positive should be handled according to established procedures, including counselling, treatment and rehabilitation where necessary.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Nnadim also called for joint training programmes between the NDLEA and the Nigeria Police Force. He said regular capacity-building would improve personnel skills, and that stronger cooperation would make both agencies more effective in carrying out their mandates.
In response, AIG Emeka warmly received the commander and his team. He thanked them for the visit and assured them of the police’s commitment to a strong and productive working relationship with the NDLEA.
The NDLEA presented a plaque of recognition to the AIG in appreciation of his support and the continued partnership between the two agencies.
