A Nigerian woman based in the United Kingdom, Mrs. Olayinka Akinrinola, has alleged that a British court wrongly convicted her son, Oluwatobiloba Akinrinola, of robbery despite the availability of CCTV evidence, insisting that he was innocent of the allegations.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Mrs. Akinrinola, Founder and Executive Director of the Olayinka Akinrinola Foundation, made the claims during an interview in which she recounted the events that led to her son’s arrest and prosecution.
According to her, her son, a student of the University of Leicester, attended a student party on November 21, 2025, where he became aware of a dispute involving the alleged theft of a pair of shoes. She maintained that he merely observed the incident briefly before leaving and was never involved in any robbery.
Mrs. Akinrinola said her son was later linked to the incident and eventually convicted, despite what she described as CCTV footage that, according to her, supported his innocence. She argued that the court failed to properly consider the evidence before reaching its verdict.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the allegations reflect the mother’s account of the case. British authorities have not publicly responded to the claims contained in the interview, and the full details of the court’s judgment were not immediately available.
