NIMC, World Bank to Take Identity Enrollment to Grassroots

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has partnered with the World Bank to launch a nationwide community-based identity enrollment drive aimed at reaching millions of Nigerians in remote areas.

NIMC Director-General Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote announced the initiative, explaining that enrollment will shift from local government offices to wards and communities to bridge access gaps caused by distance, insecurity, and poor infrastructure.

From February 16, the Commission will begin a six-week intensive enrollment exercise targeting hard-to-reach populations, supported by the World Bank’s Identification for Development (ID4D) program.

Odusote emphasized that enrollment is free and warned against payment by citizens. She also highlighted the newly introduced NINAuth App, which allows secure, consent-based verification of identity across sectors.
