President Bola Tinubu has asserted that the North has been the primary beneficiary of his economic reforms, highlighting increased federal allocations and infrastructure development in the region.
President Bola Tinubu has declared that the northern region of Nigeria has been the biggest beneficiary of the economic reforms implemented by his administration since 2023. The President made the assertion during a meeting with the North Central APC Forum at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday .
According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Sunday Dare, President Tinubu stated that states in the North have witnessed a significant increase in federal allocations due to the reforms. He noted that while the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) disbursements stood at N711 billion in 2023, the figure has now risen to N4.5 trillion, with northern states receiving a substantial portion of the revenue .
Additionally, the President referenced the establishment of the South East Development Commission and the North West Development Commission, both of which were signed into law to address the region’s developmental challenges.
Tinubu’s remarks come amid growing criticisms of his administration’s reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira, which have contributed to a rise in the cost of living. The President, however, maintained that these measures are necessary to secure Nigeria’s long-term economic stability.
