Vice President Kashim Shettima has charged state governments to take decisive action in resolving the electricity challenges affecting their respective domains.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Shettima gave this directive during a recent high-level power sector engagement, stressing that electricity generation and distribution have been effectively decentralised.
He noted that with the enactment of the Electricity Act 2023, states now possess the constitutional backing to generate, transmit, and distribute power independently. He urged governors to fully utilise this autonomy rather than relying solely on the Federal Government.
The Vice President emphasised that the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has created a favourable environment for sub-national governments and private investors to thrive in the power sector.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Shettima advised state governments to foster strong partnerships with the private sector to build robust energy infrastructure and attract the necessary investments to end persistent blackouts.
