The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has called for stronger collaboration between the corporation and the Nigeria Police Force to combat railway vandalism and improve the security of railway infrastructure across the country.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the NRC boss made the appeal during a meeting with senior police officials, stressing that the protection of railway assets requires coordinated efforts among security agencies and relevant stakeholders.
He expressed concern over the increasing cases of vandalism targeting railway facilities, noting that the destruction of critical infrastructure poses a serious threat to public safety, disrupts railway operations, and results in significant financial losses for the government.
The NRC chief also advocated for stiffer penalties against individuals convicted of vandalising railway infrastructure, arguing that tougher sanctions would serve as a deterrent to criminals engaged in sabotaging public assets.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the Nigeria Police reiterated its commitment to strengthening security around railway facilities and pledged continued collaboration with the NRC to safeguard national infrastructure and prosecute offenders in accordance with the law.
