The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has charged fresh nursing graduates of Benue State University to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct, ethical practice, and patient-centred care as they embark on their careers in the health sector.
The Council’s charge was delivered during the induction ceremony for the newly qualified nurses, where officials emphasised that the nursing profession carries enormous responsibility for human lives and must be practised with diligence, integrity, and compassion.
Officials of the Council reminded the graduands that their licence to practice comes with strict obligations, warning that professional misconduct, negligence, or ethical breaches would attract sanctions, including suspension or outright revocation of their practising licences.
The Council further stressed the importance of continuous professional development, urging the new nurses to stay abreast of emerging medical knowledge, best practices, and technological advancements in healthcare delivery.
They were also advised to treat every patient with dignity and respect, regardless of social status, ethnicity, or religious background, reinforcing the universal values underpinning the nursing profession.
Benue State University officials who were present at the ceremony congratulated the graduates and expressed confidence in their ability to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s healthcare system, particularly in underserved communities across the country.
The inductees pledged to abide by the professional code of conduct and serve the nation with dedication and excellence.
