Opposition Urges INEC to Extend Voter Registration After Exercise Ends

Abuja, Nigeria — CDA News Nigeria reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded its voter registration exercise today, while opposition parties have called on the electoral body to extend the exercise to allow more eligible Nigerians to register.

According to reports gathered by CDA News Nigeria, the opposition argued that extending the registration period would enable citizens who were unable to complete the process due to logistical challenges and heavy turnout to participate in the electoral process.

The voter registration exercise forms part of INEC’s preparations for upcoming elections. The commission had earlier announced the registration timetable, urging eligible Nigerians to register within the stipulated period.

“Opposition parties have called on INEC to extend the voter registration exercise to accommodate more eligible voters,” according to reports.

As of the time of filing this report, INEC had not officially announced any extension to the registration exercise. The commission is expected to provide further updates on the next phase of the electoral process, including the publication of the voters’ register and other election preparations.
