Political Allegations: APC Chieftain Accuses Abia Governor of Dual Loyalty to Amaechi

ABUJA – A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has publicly accused Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, of political insincerity, alleging that the governor’s public engagements mask a hidden allegiance to former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Dr. Bashir Lamido, leader of the Arewa Summit International, made the allegations in a statement on Monday, January 26, 2026. He claimed Governor Otti has been providing “fake assurances” of loyalty to both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Labour Party’s Peter Obi while his true political commitments lie elsewhere.

“Governor Otti is not being straightforward,” Lamido stated. “You cannot claim to support President Tinubu and at the same time work against his political interest.”

Lamido suggested that Otti’s refusal to openly join the APC, unlike other regional leaders, stems from a desire to avoid party discipline and maintain unilateral control over state resources. He further alleged that these resources are being used to settle political debts to Amaechi, whom he claimed financed Otti’s election victory.

The APC leader also criticized the Abia State government’s media team for alleged attacks on Senator Orji Uzor Kalu following the senator’s comments about the governor. Lamido demanded a public apology from Otti to the senator.

Questioning the governor’s democratic temperament, Lamido asked, “Why is he so worried about opposition? Why does every comment trigger panic?” He warned that Otti’s current political approach could lead to isolation and a single term in office.

Governor Otti’s office has not yet issued an official response to these allegations.
