Rt. Hon. Sam Ifeanyi Onuigbo, the President of GLOBE Legislators Worldwide, has extended warm congratulations to the government and people of Abia State on its 35th anniversary, commending Abians for their commitment to peace, security, and democratic governance .
In a statement marking the milestone, Onuigbo, a former federal lawmaker who represented Ikwuano/Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency from 2015 to 2023, praised the resilience and unity of the people. He noted that the state’s progress over the past three and a half decades stands as a testament to the collective efforts of its citizens.
“I commend Abians for sustaining peace, strengthening security, and deepening confidence in democratic leadership,” Onuigbo stated. He emphasized that the state’s stability and development provide a solid foundation for future growth and prosperity .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Onuigbo’s recognition aligns with Governor Alex Otti’s recent statewide broadcast marking the anniversary. Governor Otti had described the 35-year journey as a testament to the resilience and determination of the people, urging residents to remain optimistic and committed to building a stronger Abia .
Onuigbo, who has held key leadership roles including Chairman of the House Committee on Climate Change in the 8th Assembly, is widely recognized for sponsoring Nigeria’s Climate Change Act 2021 and his global advocacy for environmental sustainability . He serves on the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission and has been celebrated as one of the 30 Global Leaders on Climate Change .
The celebration comes as Abia continues to witness infrastructural development across its three senatorial zones, with Governor Otti acknowledging the contributions of past leaders including the late Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, Chief Theodore Orji, and Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu .
