A coalition of professionals from Edo Central Senatorial District has announced a strategic focus on education and social interventions as part of efforts to drive grassroots development ahead of 2027.
The group, which includes medical doctors, engineers, lawyers, and academics, unveiled its blueprint on Tuesday in Irrua, stating that the senatorial district has lagged behind in key human development indices.
“Our target is clear: revive public schools, provide vocational training for youths, and launch social support systems for the elderly and vulnerable,” said Dr. Matthew Ogbemudia, convener of the coalition.
The professionals also pledged to advocate for better representation at both state and national levels, insisting that Edo Central deserves senators and assembly members who prioritize tangible projects over political grandstanding.
They announced plans to fund initial interventions through contributions from members, with the hope of attracting government and private sector partnerships.
Reactions from political stakeholders in the district have been mixed, with some welcoming the non-partisan approach while others expressing skepticism about the group’s reach.
