Public servants under the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) plan to begin a three-day warning strike on October 2 unless the Federal Government meets their demands on petrol prices, a wage award, and minimum wage negotiations.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the JNPSNC, which is made up of eight public sector unions, issued the notice in a statement on Tuesday, September 29.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the council wants petrol prices cut to N500 per litre, a wage award, and a tripartite committee to begin talks on the new national minimum wage expected in 2027.
The council asked President Bola Tinubu to address the demands in his Independence Day broadcast. It noted that the minimum wage currently stands at ₦70,000.
The council said the high cost of fuel is placing the survival of workers, their dependants and the wider public under severe pressure.
It added that members have been mobilised nationwide, following a letter sent to the President.
It remains unclear whether the President’s address met the council’s demands, and no government response has been reported at the time of publishing. If the strike goes ahead, it could disrupt services in federal offices and agencies nationwide.
CDA News Nigeria will update this report as developments emerge.
