Rep.Sam Onuigbo Honored for Restoring Management Courses at MOUAU

The former House of Representatives member for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South and current South-East representative on the North-East Development Commission , Hon. Sam Onuigbo, has been honored for his instrumental role in restoring vital academic programs at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU).

The College of Management Science (COLMAS) at the university awarded Onuigbo the Ambassador Plenipotentiary Award in recognition of his outstanding and sustained efforts, which led to the reinstatement of five key Management Science courses: Accounting, Marketing, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, and Economics.

These programs, delisted by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2016, had disrupted the academic journeys of many students for years. As reported by Vanguard Nigeria, Onuigbo championed the cause by raising a motion in the House of Representatives during the Eighth Assembly and maintained consistent engagement with relevant agencies even after his legislative tenure.

The recognition by his alma mater’s community highlights a tangible achievement in constituency service. Onuigbo’s efforts were praised by the Traditional Ruler of Umudike Ancient Kingdom, HRH Eze Onyekwere Anyaegbu, who affirmed the profound positive impact of the restoration on the university and the local community.

This award adds to Onuigbo’s recent recognitions, which include the African Impact Excellence Award 2025 for his pivotal sponsorship of Nigeria’s Climate Change Act.
