Reps Launch Probe into $460 Million Abuja CCTV Loan

The House of Representatives has ordered a comprehensive investigation into a $460 million Chinese loan meant for the Abuja Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) project.

The decision follows a motion by Hon. Amobi Ogah, who highlighted that despite Nigeria still repaying the loan, the project has failed to improve security in the capital.

The loan was secured during the Jonathan administration to fund a city-wide security surveillance system. Lawmakers expressed concern over the project’s apparent failure amidst rising security concerns in the Federal Capital Territory.

The House has mandated its Committees on National Security, Finance, and Public Accounts to investigate the loan terms and project execution, reporting back within a specified timeframe.
