The Nigerian Senate on Thursday screened a slate of high-profile ambassadorial nominees, including former Abia State Governor,Dr.Okezie Ikpeazu,Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and former presidential aide Reno Omokri.
The nominees, who arrived early at the National Assembly, also included former Aviation Minister Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, former Interior Minister Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), and former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, among other former lawmakers and ministers.
In line with Senate tradition, many of the nominees with prior ministerial or legislative experience were allowed to “take a bow and leave” without facing detailed questioning. The exercise is part of President Bola Tinubu’s push to confirm a new cadre of diplomats.
