ABUJA, NIGERIA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to screen and confirm Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance and former Senator Magnus Abe as Chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) Board .
The requests were contained in separate letters read during Tuesday’s plenary session by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio .
Oyedele to Replace Uzoka-Anite
In his correspondence, President Tinubu explained that Oyedele’s nomination forms part of ongoing adjustments within the Federal Executive Council . If confirmed, the 50-year-old economist and tax expert will replace Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who is expected to move to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State .
Oyedele, from Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, currently serves as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he has led efforts to overhaul Nigeria’s tax system . He is a renowned public policy expert with over two decades of experience at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader .
Magnus Abe Nominated as NUPRC Chairman
In a separate request, President Tinubu urged the upper chamber to confirm Senator Magnus Abe as Chairman of the NUPRC Board, following the resignation of Gbenga Komolafe .
Abe, who represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District for two terms, is a former NNPC board member and currently serves as Chairman of the National Agency of the Great Green Wall .
The President also nominated Paul Yaro Jezhi, a former Chairman of the Trade Union Congress in Kaduna State, and Sunday Adebayo Babalola, a former deputy director at the defunct Department of Petroleum Resources, to serve as non-executive commissioners of the NUPRC Board .
Senate President Akpabio referred the nominations to the Senate Committee on Petroleum Upstream for further legislative consideration and screening .
