The Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan chapter, has commenced an indefinite strike over the hospital management’s alleged refusal to implement the Federal Ministry of Health’s recommendation on the disciplinary case of Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Dr Adeyinka Ishola.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the strike, announced in a letter to members, began on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, following the failure of repeated dialogue to resolve the dispute centred on the sale of a tricycle donated to the Pharmacy Department.
NUAHP Chairman, Oladayo Olabampe, explained that while an initial hospital investigation recommended Ishola’s suspension, an independent ministry-appointed panel found him not guilty of fraud, only guilty of failing to carry management along in the tricycle’s sale, recommending reprimand and reinstatement instead.
According to Olabampe, the union disagrees with UCH management’s position that the ministry’s verdict is not final, insisting the supervisory authority’s decision should stand. He maintained that Ishola was not a thief, describing his action as merely an administrative error.
Ishola, removed from office over a year ago, had explained that the tricycle was initially a personal gift from a pharmaceutical company which he later handed to the department, and that he sold it after discovering spare parts would be difficult to source, using the N1.3 million proceeds to address departmental needs including trolley tyres and office chairs.
The strike follows a previous five-day warning strike at UCH in March 2026 over electricity rationing affecting surgeries and laboratory services.
