Vandals Destroy Key Power Line, Disrupting Electricity in Borno and Yobe

A major power transmission tower supplying electricity to Borno and Yobe states has been destroyed by vandals, causing significant supply disruptions.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed that tower T347 on the Gombe–Damaturu 330kV line was deliberately vandalized, causing it to collapse. The incident has disrupted the bulk supply of power to cities like Maiduguri and Damaturu.

In response, the TCN has activated contingency measures. Maiduguri is currently receiving power from the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP), while Damaturu is being supplied temporarily from the Potiskum Substation.

TCN engineers have been mobilized to the site to replace the vandalized tower and restore normal transmission. The company has condemned the act as a “deliberate attack on critical national assets” and urged communities to report suspicious activities near power infrastructure to safeguard the nation’s electricity grid.
