Voting Underway in Anambra Governorship Election

AWKA, NIGERIA – The Anambra State governorship election is now underway with voting commencing in polling units across the state, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The electoral commission confirmed that voting has begun in several polling units in Njikoka Local Government Area, specifically at Registration Area 10: Enugwu Ukwu II.

In pre-election messages, INEC assured voters that their ballots would count, stating: “Be counted, be heard. Step out and vote peacefully. Every vote must count.” The commission also issued warnings against vote selling, emphasizing that “your vote is not for sale.”

The start of voting followed earlier reports of delays in some areas, particularly in Awka where INEC officials had not arrived at polling units as of 8:30 a.m. despite the scheduled 8:00 a.m. commencement time.

The election features 16 candidates competing to lead the state, with incumbent Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance seeking re-election against prominent challengers including Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress.
