Plateau-based cleric, Isa El-Buba, has revealed the real reason he stopped supporting the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 election.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that El-Buba spoke during an interview on the “Mic On” podcast hosted by journalist Seun Okinbaloye on Saturday, disclosing that Obi lacks the courage he expects from a political leader.
According to him, he has since shifted his support to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Adewale Adebayo, ahead of the 2027 polls, although he maintained that he still regards Obi as a good person despite what he described as certain weaknesses.
El-Buba explained that courage remains one of the core qualities he expects from anyone seeking national leadership, particularly during difficult moments requiring bold decisions on behalf of followers.
He said, “Peter Obi is a nice man. He is not a bad man. But there are certain things I saw and had discussed with him personally. When a leader loses courage, the first instrument of a leader in the midst of all trials is courage to take shots on behalf of the followers. When a leader loses that one thing, you lose me.”
The cleric further criticised Obi’s political trajectory, questioning his decision to leave the Labour Party to explore other political platforms ahead of 2027.
